Microfat Transfers for Volumisation

As we age, one of the things that begin to be notice, is the loss of volume in the face, as well as hands, and other areas, but these changes are not the only ones that make us appear older. It is not just the wrinkles. The progressive effects of time on your skin, as well as changes in soft tissue, and other deeper structural components of the face bring about changes in the skin texture and loss of plumpness and volume in the face, and hands.

They appear bonier and gaunter, adding to the perception of age. Gravity, bone thinning, decreased tissue elasticity and subcutaneous fat loss all exacerbate this. For many who wanted to rejuvenate a more youthful appearance, a facelift was usually considered the go-to option, but that comes with high costs and recovery time, as well as pain and inconvenience to life in general. Recent years have seen a significant increase in the number of non-surgical procedures performed for facial rejuvenation. Men and women seeking alternatives to surgical procedures include those who require restoration of lost facial volume, those who wish to fat-transferenhance normal facial features, and those who want to correct facial asymmetry.

Important factors in selecting a non-surgical treatment option include the advantages of an immediate cosmetic result and a short recovery time. The Melrose Aesthetic Centre has been using Dermal Fillers for many years as part of its rejuvenation treatments, and now offers the option of Micro Fat transfers for volumisation. Fat Transfer can also be done for body sculpting. In these cases, a larger amount of fat is used and a full Liposuction treatment is required to secure sufficient fat. Mircro Fat Transfer can be done for body treatments including, but not limited to, “butt” and breast enhancement to name a few. *

Why use fat?

Human fat has long been recognized as an ideal method for reshaping areas of the body, by removing it from one place and transferring it to another, but this was usually not related specifically to aesthetic procedures. The use of Hyaluronic based Dermal Fillers for facial reshaping and correcting facial volume loss has been in use for some time and has developed a reputation for being an easy, if not permanent solution to decreases in facial volume, reshaping noses and lips, and a host of other things. The chances of the largely synthetic Filler having an adverse reaction, or causing other problems is removed if your own fat is used, which is naturally compatible with your body.

How do you choose?

If you have considered undergoing a Facial Rejuvenation or body resculpting procedure but don’t think you’re ready for a facelift or other form of plastic surgery, you may wish to investigate Micro Fat Transfers. This injection method of fat sculpting, also called microlipoinjection, can restore attractive contours to your cheeks, chin, and under-eye area, add volume to your lips, volumisation of the breast and buttocks.

Unlike the Hyaluronic and other Dermal Filler injections, which will likely last up to 9 months, as the body reabsorbs it, most specialists agree that Micro Fat Transfers which settle and develop by about 6 months after treatment are generally permanent. But remember, aging can’t be stopped. *

The procedure and results

Because your own fat is used, Micro Fat Transfer requires three steps. The first step involves the gentle Liposuction of some excess fat (such as that found in the jowls, abdomen, thighs, or buttocks). The second step involves the isolation and cleansing of the fat cells. The third and final step involves the injection of the fat cells into the targeted facial areas. Local light anesthesia is used and with a sedative. Once these steps are done, your Specialist at The Melrose Aesthetic Centre carefully injects micro-droplets into the areas of your face or body that require volumisation. After it is injected it will re-vascularize and plump up the area into which it was injected. There will be no incision or open wound, so no sutures will be required. Recovery is quick and simple and very little downtime is required, and normal activities can be resumed in a few days. * You should expect a little swelling in the treated areas, and the full effects only start to become visible after about fourteen days. Areas that can benefit from Micro Fat Transfers for Volumisation are:

  • Cheeks
  • Brows
  • Chin
  • The jawline
  • The temples
  • Breasts
  • Buttocks
  • Deep scars
